The 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, have formally joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Both politicians were received on Sunday at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, where they were presented with membership cards by the NDC national chairman, Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe.
Obi had earlier announced his exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while Kwankwaso also hinted at ongoing consultations with the NDC before the official declaration.
Speaking after joining the party, Kwankwaso said discussions with NDC stakeholders revealed strong ideological alignment.
He urged Nigerians to register with the party ahead of the closing date for membership registration.
Also speaking, Obi called on party members to avoid unnecessary legal disputes, stressing that the party’s focus should be on rebuilding the country.

“Let there be no litigation. Party members, please don’t go to court. We are not lawyers. We don’t want to spend our time on litigation,” Obi said.
He added that the party’s mission is to restore Nigeria’s development path and improve living conditions.
“This party would form the government that will rebuild Nigeria. Government that will ensure that Nigerians in Nigeria are living with no fear,” he said.
