Petrol prices rose further across parts of Lagos and Ogun State on Saturday after the Dangote Petroleum Refinery raised the price at which it sells Premium Motor Spirit to marketers.

The refinery increased its gantry price from N1,265 to N1,350 per litre, with the new rate taking effect on Saturday, September 12, 2026.

Following the adjustment, some filling stations reviewed their pump prices upwards, although others were still selling at their previous rates as of 6pm.

A check showed that the Dangote-backed MRS station in Alapere, Lagos, increased its pump price from N1,310 to N1,395 per litre. Mobil, located on the same axis, sold the product for N1,385 per litre.

In Ogun State, Matrix filling station at Kara dispensed petrol at N1,360 per litre, while NNPC retail outlets in Ibafo sold at N1,380.

Bovas, however, was still selling petrol at N1,280 per litre, showing that prices varied from one station to another.

The latest development followed a circular issued late Friday by the Group Commercial Operations office of the Dangote refinery informing customers of the new pricing structure.

The increase represents the fourth upward adjustment to the refinery’s petrol gantry price since August 21.

The refinery initially moved its price from N1,165 to N1,185 per litre on August 21. Five days later, it was raised to N1,200, before another increase to N1,265 on August 29.

With the latest N85 increase, the gantry price has risen by N185 per litre in 22 days, representing an increase of about 15.9 per cent.

Petroleumprice.ng also reported that the refinery adjusted its coastal delivery price from N1,669,545 to N1,783,530 per metric tonne.

Marketers were instructed to return their existing Authority to Collect documents for repricing. The refinery said new volume contracts would subsequently be issued to enable loading to resume.

The latest increase comes amid rising international crude oil prices and continued concerns over global oil supplies.

Brent crude recently moved above $104 per barrel after previously exceeding $107, as the prolonged confrontation between the United States and Iran disrupted oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz.

Oil shipments through the strategic waterway have fallen significantly, while attacks on tankers and restrictions on shipping have heightened fears of further supply disruptions.

The resulting pressure on international crude prices has also affected the cost of refined petroleum products, including petrol sold in Nigeria.

Officials of the Dangote refinery did not respond to messages seeking further clarification on the latest price adjustment.

The latest pump price increase represents a significant rise from levels recorded before the Middle East crisis. Petrol, which sold for around N830 per litre before the crisis began on February 28, has now reached N1,395 or more in some locations.

At the start of the crisis, crude oil was trading below $69 per barrel. Subsequent disruptions to global supplies pushed prices higher, prompting domestic refiners and fuel importers to review their prices.

The continuing adjustments by the Dangote refinery have consequently translated into higher petrol prices for motorists, although the actual amount paid remains dependent on the filling station and location.
