Nigerian Afropop singer Akinmayokun Awodumila, popularly known as May D, has opened up about his financial struggles during his time with Square Records, owned by iconic twin artists P-Square.

In a candid interview on the Honest Bunch podcast with Chude, May D shared that poverty prevented him from opening a bank account throughout his four-year stint with the label.

“For the four years I was with P-Square, I didn’t have a bank account. It’s only when someone has money that he opens an account,” he revealed.

May D, who has recently been in the headlines, also hinted at poor treatment while under Square Records, shedding light on the challenges he faced during his early career.

The revelation has sparked discussions among fans and music enthusiasts, highlighting the often-overlooked struggles artists endure behind the scenes despite being associated with prominent names in the industry.

This disclosure adds to May D’s narrative about his time with the label, which he has frequently cited as a pivotal yet challenging phase in his musical journey.
