Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim praised his team’s progress after their thrilling FA Cup penalty shootout victory over Arsenal. The win marked a promising step forward following a challenging start to Amorim’s tenure at Old Trafford.

United’s recent performances signal hope for fans long accustomed to inconsistent progress under previous managers Erik ten Hag and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Despite early struggles, including a poor run of results, Amorim has seen his squad deliver against top opponents, including a resilient display against Liverpool and now Arsenal.
Reflecting on the FA Cup match, Amorim highlighted the team’s improvement from their 2-0 league loss to Arsenal last month:
“I think we played, especially in the first half, better than in the first game. We were better in set pieces, more aggressive, and showed a different spirit, even with 10 men.”
Heroes Emerge Amid Criticism
The victory owed much to second-choice goalkeeper Altay Bayindir and forward Joshua Zirkzee, who both redeemed themselves after facing recent criticism. Bayindir, previously blamed for United’s League Cup exit against Tottenham, made crucial saves during the penalty shootout, while Zirkzee converted the decisive spot-kick.
Amorim acknowledged their turnaround:
Your life as a footballer has cycles and moments. Altay was our hero today, and Joshua, after some issues with fans, had the last penalty. You have to stay humble and keep working; your time will come.”
Rashford’s Future Uncertain
Amorim addressed speculation about Marcus Rashford, who was absent from the squad again.
He’s a player for Manchester United. We’ll see. He has to work, represent his club, and he loves his club, but I have to make choices.”
United’s FA Cup journey continues, offering a glimmer of hope for the team and fans as Amorim looks to build a more consistent and competitive squad.
