Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford will miss Sunday’s crucial Premier League clash against league leaders Liverpool at Anfield, head coach Ruben Amorim has confirmed.
The 27-year-old, who has been struggling with illness, was left out of the squad for four consecutive matches in the Premier League before being named on the bench during United’s 2-0 loss to Newcastle on Monday.
Despite his inclusion, Rashford did not feature in the Premier League match.
United’s Struggles:
With just one win in their last six league games, United are currently languishing in 14th place with 22 points from 19 matches, marking their worst end-of-year standing since 1989.
Coach’s Comments:
“It’s the same situation; at the moment, he is ill. He is not training,” Amorim told reporters. “We will see in the future, but this week he is out.”
Rashford’s Uncertain Future:
The England international, who has scored 138 goals in 426 appearances since his debut in 2016, hinted at a potential departure after being left out of the squad for United’s 2-1 derby win against Manchester City on December 15. “Ready for a new challenge,” Rashford had said, sparking speculation about his future at Old Trafford.
Achievements:
Rashford has been a key player for United, contributing to their Europa League triumph, two FA Cup wins, and two League Cup victories during his tenure.
As United prepare to face Liverpool, the absence of Rashford could further challenge Amorim’s efforts to revive the team’s faltering season.
