Premier League: Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that the club is planning to strengthen its squad in the upcoming January transfer window, with injuries and suspensions affecting the team’s performance over the past month.
Despite a dramatic 4-3 win over Manchester United in the League Cup, Spurs have struggled in the Premier League, suffering three losses in their last five matches and slipping to 11th in the table.
Ahead of Thursday’s Boxing Day match against Nottingham Forest, Ange Postecoglou acknowledged the need for reinforcements, stating, “We’ve been planning… we’re still a little bit short in a couple of areas and we need to reinforce.”
The Australian manager emphasized that Tottenham remains involved in multiple competitions, including the Carabao Cup, FA Cup, and European football, making squad depth crucial for the remainder of the season.
However, Ange Postecoglou was cautious not to make rash decisions during the transfer window. “You don’t just want to panic and bring in anybody,” he explained, stressing the importance of being methodical and prudent in their recruitment process.
Tottenham has been plagued by injuries to key players, including goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, defenders Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, further complicating their campaign.
Postecoglou praised his players for their commitment, saying, “I can’t be critical of this group of players at the moment… they’re giving absolute maximum effort.”
While the team has faced challenges, Postecoglou remains optimistic about the squad’s dedication, adding that the players are executing his aggressive tactics to the best of their ability.
The manager also shared his plans for Christmas, admitting that he would be spending the holiday alone as his family remains in Australia. “It’s a family tradition… I will give them a call in the morning and then get on about my day,” he said.
As Tottenham looks to recover from a difficult run of results, Postecoglou’s strategic approach to the transfer window could provide the reinforcements needed to lift the team’s fortunes in the second half of the season.
