Iyabo Ojo Regrets Advocacy For Mohbad’s Exhumation Amid Burial Delays

Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has expressed regret over her role in advocating for the exhumation of late singer Mohbad’s body, citing the ongoing burial delays and family disputes as reasons for her change of stance.

Mohbad, born Ilerioluwa Aloba, passed away under controversial circumstances on September 12, 2023, and was buried the following day. However, his body was exhumed on September 21, 2023, by the Lagos State Police for an autopsy investigation.

During a recent appearance on Biola Bayo’s Talk to B podcast, Iyabo Ojo shared her disappointment over how the situation has unfolded. She revealed her initial intent was to uncover the truth behind Mohbad’s untimely death, but the process has become mired in family disputes.

“I wouldn’t have requested that Mohbad be exhumed if I knew his case would turn out this way. He hasn’t been buried till now. His dad says he wants a DNA test done, and I heard the court has granted his request. But I heard his dad has conditions again,” she stated.

The actress highlighted how her advocacy has been overshadowed by controversies, including the demand for a DNA test to confirm the paternity of Mohbad’s son, Liam, by the singer’s father, Joseph Aloba.

“I did my best to ensure that everyone was investigated, but when they came up with different theories, DNA became more important to them,” she added.

The paternity dispute and legal battles have caused significant delays in reburial plans. In October 2023, Mohbad’s father insisted the burial would not proceed until paternity was confirmed.

Fans and supporters have expressed frustration, urging for a resolution to honour Mohbad’s memory and provide closure. Meanwhile, Iyabo Ojo remains hopeful that the late singer’s legacy will not be overshadowed by the ongoing disputes.
