Bayero University, Kano has announced the death of Hadiza Jega, wife of former Vice-Chancellor of the institution and former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Attahiru Jega.
In a statement released via its official social media handle, the university expressed deep sorrow over the loss.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. With total submission to the will of Allah, we announce the passing of Hajiya Hadiza Attahiru Jega.”
The university further disclosed that the funeral prayer (Janazah) would take place immediately after Zuhr at the National Mosque in Abuja on Sunday, April 5, 2026.
It also prayed for the deceased and her family, saying, “May Allah grant her Aljannatul Firdaus and forgive her shortcomings. May He also grant the family the strength and patience to bear this loss. Ameen.”

Confirming the development, the Director of Public Affairs at Bayero University Kano, Lamara Garba, also spoke to PUNCH Online.
“Yes, it’s true the wife of our former VC and former INEC chairman, Hajiya Hadiza Attahiru Jega is dead and will be buried in Abuja. May the Almighty Allah forgive her shortcomings,” he said.
