Top Nigerian music stars Ayra Starr, Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy and Omah Lay failed to clinch awards in their respective categories at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
The prestigious ceremony took place on February 2 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, with South African comedian Trevor Noah returning as host.
In the Best African Music Performance category, South Africa’s Tyla emerged winner, defeating strong contenders including Burna Boy’s “Love”, Wizkid and Ayra Starr’s “Gimme Dat”, Davido and Omah Lay’s “With You”, as well as Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin’s “Hope & Love”.
Burna Boy also suffered another loss in the Best Global Music Album category, where his project was beaten by Youssou N’Dour’s “Eclairer le monde: Light the World”.
Tyla’s latest triumph further cements her growing Grammy legacy. The South African star previously won the Best African Music Performance award in 2024 for her global hit “Water”.
