Top Nigerian music stars Ayra Starr, Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy and Omah Lay failed to clinch awards in their respective categories at the 2026 Grammy Awards.

The prestigious ceremony took place on February 2 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, with South African comedian Trevor Noah returning as host.

In the Best African Music Performance category, South Africa’s Tyla emerged winner, defeating strong contenders including Burna Boy’s “Love”, Wizkid and Ayra Starr’s “Gimme Dat”, Davido and Omah Lay’s “With You”, as well as Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin’s “Hope & Love”.

Burna Boy also suffered another loss in the Best Global Music Album category, where his project was beaten by Youssou N’Dour’s “Eclairer le monde: Light the World”.

Tyla’s latest triumph further cements her growing Grammy legacy. The South African star previously won the Best African Music Performance award in 2024 for her global hit “Water”.

Meanwhile, Nigeria enjoyed success in the category in 2025 through Tems. The 29-year-old singer won with her song “Love Me JeJe”, surpassing a competitive lineup that included Yemi Alade, Asake, Wizkid, Davido, Lojay and Burna Boy.

Despite the losses, Nigerian artistes continue to dominate nominations and maintain a strong presence on the global music stage.
