The casualties included a local watchman and three contractors working on-site.

According to a statement released on Sunday by the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) spokesperson, Kenneth Udo, the attack occurred on Friday evening at approximately 7:20 p.m., leaving the facility’s security infrastructure severely damaged. However, no immigration officers were harmed during the assault.

The statement read: “The service regrets to announce a recent attack by a suspected terrorist group on our facilities and contractors on-site at the Kangiwa border in Kangiwa Local Government Area of Kebbi State at about 19:20 hours on Friday, January 10, 2025. The attack led to the death of four persons, including a local watchman and three contractors. We also recorded substantial damages to our security facilities. No immigration officers were killed during the attack. We send our heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. We are actively working alongside our sister agencies to identify and apprehend those responsible for these heinous acts and bring them to justice.”

The Nigerian Immigration Service NIS reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining border security and ensuring national safety despite this tragic incident.

Background:

This attack comes amid increasing reports of insecurity in Kebbi State. On Saturday, the Kebbi State Police Command confirmed another incident in Gumki village, where suspected Lakurawa bandits killed four individuals, including three telecom contractors.

Authorities are intensifying efforts to address these security challenges and apprehend those responsible for the ongoing violence in the region.
