Nigeria’s national team, the Nigeria national football team, has retained its 26th position in the latest FIFA world rankings following their performances during the March international break.

Under head coach Eric Chelle, the Super Eagles played two friendly matches, recording a 2–1 victory over Iran and a 2–2 draw against Jordan.

The win over Iran earned Nigeria 5.34 ranking points due to the opponent’s higher ranking, while the draw with the lower-ranked Jordan resulted in a deduction of 1.81 points.

The FIFA ranking system, based on the Elo model, factors in match results, opponent strength, and match importance, meaning stronger performances against higher-ranked teams yield more points.

Despite the mixed outcomes, Nigeria maintained their total of 1585.09 points, preserving their rise earlier in the year following their strong showing at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where they finished third and climbed from 38th to 26th in the global standings.

This ranking marks Nigeria’s highest position in 16 years, with their last better placement recorded in May 2010, when they were ranked 21st in the world.

Across the continent, Morocco remain Africa’s top-ranked team and are placed eighth globally after positive results in recent fixtures, while Senegal dropped slightly to 14th but still hold second place in Africa. Nigeria remains third on the African list, ahead of teams like Algeria, Egypt, and Ivory Coast.

At the top of the global table, France has moved into first place, overtaking Spain, while Argentina, England, Portugal, Brazil, Netherlands, Morocco, Belgium, and Germany complete the top 10.

The rankings are currently being updated in real time for the March international window and are expected to be revised again after the June fixtures, as teams prepare for the upcoming expanded FIFA World Cup.
