The Lagos State Government has confirmed the collapse of a bungalow classroom building at Odokekere High School in Ikorodu, describing the incident as “sad news.”
In a statement issued on Friday by the Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools (SCRPS), the state government assured residents that no lives were lost in the incident, stressing that “no casualty was recorded at the building collapse.”
The committee further reassured parents and the public, stating, “All of our students are in perfect condition.”
According to SCRPS, the affected classroom block was already marked for demolition as part of plans to expand the school’s infrastructure to meet its increasing student population. The statement explained that the planned demolition was aimed at constructing “a befitting classroom edifice that will accommodate the huge population of students in the school.”
Following the development, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has directed that students be immediately moved to nearby schools to prevent any disruption to academic activities.
