President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic stampede at a children’s funfair in Islamic High School, Orita Bashorun, Ibadan, which claimed the lives of 35 minors and left several others injured.

In a statement by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the President extended his condolences to the government and people of Oyo State and offered prayers for the grieving families.

“President Tinubu has urgently directed the relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances of this tragedy thoroughly,” the statement read, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in identifying possible negligence or lapses.

The President called on the Oyo State Government to strengthen safety protocols for public events to prevent a recurrence. Measures outlined include:

  • Comprehensive safety reviews for public gatherings.
  • Strict enforcement of safety regulations.
  • Regular audits of event venues.

Event organizers were urged to prioritize safety, particularly for children, by incorporating professional security and logistics planning.

Reiterating his administration’s commitment to the well-being of children, President Tinubu stressed, “No event should ever compromise the safety of our children or take precedence over their lives.
