Barcelona’s midfield maestro, Pedro González López popularly known as Pedri has secured his long-term future at the club, signing a four-year contract extension that will keep him at Camp Nou until June 2030.
The announcement, made on Thursday, comes as a significant boost for club president Joan Laporta, who has been under scrutiny following Barcelona’s struggles with player registrations.
Pedri, now 22, has been a key figure in the team since his teenage years, filling the void left by club legend Andres Iniesta.
Pedro González López’s influence on the pitch was further cemented when he played a crucial role in Spain’s triumphant Euro 2024 campaign.
The talented midfielder sealed the new deal in the presence of Laporta and Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, as confirmed by the club’s official channels.
Laporta has faced mounting criticism after Barcelona encountered registration issues with summer arrivals Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, leaving both players dependent on temporary licenses.
Meanwhile, on the European stage, Hansi Flick’s squad secured second place in the 36-team Champions League competition on Wednesday.
However, their La Liga campaign remains a challenge, with the Catalan giants trailing fierce rivals Real Madrid by seven points.
