Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has urged all residents, including politicians, to stay away from local government secretariats to avoid further violence and protect public assets.
The directive comes in response to violent clashes spurred by an alleged illegal takeover attempt by sacked APC chairmen and councillors. The governor shared the message via his official X account on Monday evening, stating:
“Following reports of a failed illegal takeover bid of local government councils in Osun by the sacked APC Chairmen and councillors, I hereby direct all Osun residents, including politicians across all political divides, to stay away from the local government secretariats to protect public properties and avoid further bloodshed.”
Tensions Escalate Amid Worker Strike
The situation has escalated as workers from the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) have withdrawn their services, leaving the council secretariats locked down. The governor emphasized that this measure is necessary to avoid further chaos.
Condolences and Security Measures
Adeleke also expressed grief over the loss of lives during the violence, offering condolences to the families of victims, particularly within the PDP:
“The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lost five members, with several others wounded… We must stop further bloodshed.”
In his efforts to restore peace, the governor has directed security agencies to take full control of the local government secretariats, assuring Osun residents of their safety and protection.
