Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has sustained a fractured arm following Galatasaray’s 4-0 loss to Liverpool in their UEFA Champions League round of 16 second-leg clash on Wednesday.
The Turkish club confirmed the development in a statement released on Thursday, noting that the injury was discovered after medical examinations conducted at the hospital.
Osimhen picked up the injury early in the game after a collision with Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté during an aerial challenge. The defender landed awkwardly on the striker’s arm, leaving him in visible discomfort. Despite this, some Liverpool players reportedly suggested he was exaggerating the situation to slow down the game.
Although clearly in pain, the former Napoli forward continued playing with his arm heavily strapped and completed the first half. However, he was substituted at the start of the second half as Liverpool dominated the match to secure qualification.
Providing an update, the club explained: “In the first half of our away match against Liverpool in the Champions League Round of 16 second leg, our player Victor Osimhen took a blow to his arm and completed the first half, but following checks at halftime, he was not played in the second half due to the risk of a fracture in his arm.
“After the match, under the supervision of our medical team, examinations at the hospital revealed a fracture in our player’s right forearm, and it was casted.
“A decision regarding surgery will be made in the coming days following further evaluations.”
The club added that Osimhen’s arm has been placed in a cast, while a final decision on whether he will undergo surgery is yet to be made.

Meanwhile, his replacement, Noa Lang, also suffered an injury during the match, sustaining a deep cut to his right thumb. Unlike Osimhen, Lang is expected to undergo surgery in Liverpool before returning to Turkey.
Before the setback, Osimhen had been a key figure for Galatasaray in the competition, recording seven goals and three assists in 10 appearances, alongside four man-of-the-match awards.
