The Lagos State Government has shut down two properties in Victoria Island over environmental violations related to improper wastewater disposal and pollution.

The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the development in a post shared on X on Wednesday, noting that the enforcement was carried out by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office.

“The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO), on Wednesday, 8th April 2026, sealed off Wealth Hotel and Kings Court, located at Nos. 3 and 5 Keystone Bank Crescent, Victoria Island, over environmental infractions resulting in nuisance and pollution,” he stated.

Wahab explained that the action taken against Kings Court was due to illegal borehole drilling activities that led to environmental disruption.

“The enforcement action against Kings Court followed the unlawful discharge of wash-off sand from borehole drilling activities by an unlicensed driller into the drainage channel causing blockages and subsequent overflow of wastewater onto the adjoining road,” he said.

He further disclosed that Wealth Hotel was shut after authorities received multiple complaints from residents about its activities.

“The Wealth Hotel was also sealed after the agency received several confirmed public complaints on the deliberate discharge of faecal matter into the drainage system, constituting a serious environmental violation,” Wahab stated.

The commissioner reiterated the state’s commitment to maintaining environmental standards, warning that offenders would face strict consequences.

“The Lagos State Government reiterates the need for residents and property operators to adhere strictly to proper wastewater management practice.

“Any individual or organisation found contravening environmental regulations will be subjected to appropriate sanctions and possible prosecution in accordance with the law,” he added.
