The Chief Press Secretary to the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, has dismissed widespread online reports alleging an increase in kidnapping incidents along the Gbagada Expressway.

The rumour, circulated through a flyer purportedly issued by the Lagos State Government, claimed that kidnappers were targeting commuters via ‘one chance’ operations using commercial buses. The message urged residents to exercise extreme caution, suggesting that abductions were on the rise in the area.

Akosile, however, debunked the claims on Friday via his official X handle, describing the alert as recycled misinformation.

He wrote: “Good morning Lagos, please beware of this fake news circulating again! We have addressed it before, but those spreading false information continue to recycle it. Kindly disregard this notification. Thank you.”

He further encouraged residents to share accurate information within their circles to promote safety and discourage panic.
“We advise that you share this information with your family and friends, as heightened awareness and collective vigilance are crucial in maintaining the safety and well-being of our community.”

The Lagos State Government urged the public to depend solely on verified updates from official state channels and security agencies, while also maintaining vigilance during their daily commute.
