The Lagos State House of Assembly has issued a stern warning to its impeached Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, cautioning against actions that could disrupt the legislative arm and create political tension.
This follows Mudashiru Obasa’s address to his supporters upon his return from the United States, where he challenged the legitimacy of his impeachment, claiming it lacked due process.
In a statement signed by Ogundipe Olukayode on behalf of the Assembly, lawmakers reaffirmed their unity behind the newly elected Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, and their commitment to their January 13 decision to remove Mudashiru Obasa.
“Over two-thirds of the members of the Lagos State House of Assembly are solidly united behind the new Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda. We stand by our constitutional decision to impeach Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa and will defend it resolutely,” the statement read.
The Assembly emphasized its dedication to good governance and peaceful relations with other arms of government. Olukayode noted that Obasa’s recent actions were “uncalled for and unparliamentary,” urging him to embrace peace.
The lawmakers warned against any attempts to escalate tensions, vowing to protect the integrity of the House and maintain peace in Lagos. “peace we want in Lagos, and peace we will achieve,” the statement concluded.
Obasa’s impeachment stemmed from allegations of misconduct and mismanagement.
