Scores of supporters of the recently impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, gathered on Saturday morning at the Speaker’s Lodge on Joel Ogunnaike Street, GRA Ikeja, Lagos, in anticipation of his return.

Clad in pro-Obasa vests and caps, the supporters reportedly planned a “heroic welcome” for the embattled lawmaker, who was ousted by a majority of the Assembly and replaced by Mojisola Meranda, the former Deputy Speaker. Since her appointment, Meranda has presided over two sittings, with Obasa absent from the proceedings.
According to sources, Obasa was out of the country at the time of his impeachment. His arrival at the Speaker’s Lodge has sparked controversy, as he is no longer officially entitled to use the residence following his removal.
A concerned resident expressed surprise at the gathering, saying, “I didn’t expect that the lodge would be opened for them.”

Armed security personnel, including police officers, have been deployed to the area to maintain order and prevent any unrest.
As of the time of filing this report, Obasa himself has not been sighted at the lodge, while his supporters continue to rally in anticipation of his arrival.
