History was made in the Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday as Mojisola Meranda was sworn in as the first female Speaker.

Mojisola Meranda, who represents the Apapa 1 Constituency, assumed the position following the impeachment of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa during a plenary session.
In her inaugural speech, Meranda pledged to uphold the principles of her office and serve with integrity.
Meranda said: “I affirm that I will be faithful as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly; that I will perform my functions honestly to the best of my ability, faithfully, and following the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” she declared.
Meranda’s appointment is a milestone in Lagos State politics, marking a new era of leadership in the Assembly.
