President Bola Tinubu has described insecurity as the most troubling challenge confronting Nigeria, particularly the Northern region, stressing the need for urgent action to rebuild trust, strengthen unity and restore peace across communities.

Speaking on Saturday in Kaduna through the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, at the 25th Anniversary of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) and the unveiling of its Endowment Fund, Tinubu emphasised that insecurity must be addressed head-on to stop further economic decline and prevent setbacks in education.

According to him, “Nothing troubles me more gravely than the security crisis bedevilling Nigeria, especially Northern Nigeria. We cannot prosper when one limb of the national body is paralysed.”

He noted that his administration met a complicated security situation but is confronting it with “urgency and determination.”

Tinubu assured that the government remains committed to dismantling terrorist and bandit groups operating in the North while working to revive the region’s economy. He expressed confidence in the North’s future potential, saying he anticipates the day crude oil from Kolmani and other northern fields begins to flow at full capacity.

The president also highlighted the rapid progress of major infrastructure projects, including the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano Superhighway, which he said are being accelerated for completion and commissioning.

Tinubu urged northern leaders to confront the region’s challenges boldly, insisting that development cannot happen if vulnerable communities remain unsafe. He cautioned that leadership loses its essence “the day we sleep comfortably while millions sleep with empty bellies, the day fear becomes a permanent companion for travellers.”

Despite decades of disunity and structural problems, Tinubu said the diversity and turnout at the ACF’s Silver Jubilee reflected a shared commitment to reject division and rebuild regional solidarity.

He commended the ACF for standing as the moral backbone of Northern Nigeria for 25 years, consistently promoting dignity, fairness and equality. The milestone celebration, he noted, represents years of courageous advocacy and principled service.

Tinubu called on leaders across all sectors to recommit to the founding ideals of the ACF, stressing that the unity and stability of the North remain essential to Nigeria’s long-term peace and development.
