Five residents have been killed in an attack on Nding Susut community in Fan district of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Police spokesperson in the state, Alfred Alabo, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, saying the attackers stormed the community on Tuesday night and opened fire on people sitting outside their homes.
According to him, four women and a nine-year-old boy were killed, while three other women sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at a hospital.
“Three other victims, all females, sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatment at General Hospital, where the corpses of the deceased have also been deposited at the hospital morgue,” the statement reads.
He explained that security operatives were immediately deployed to the scene after receiving reports of the attack.
“Upon receipt of the report, a team of Policemen led by the Divisional Police Officer, Barkin Ladi, was immediately mobilized to the scene. The area has since been secured, and normalcy is gradually being restored,” he said.

The Plateau State Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah, condemned the attack, describing it as senseless and extending condolences to the bereaved families.
“The Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command, CP Bassey Ewah, psc (++), FCAI, MSPSP, strongly condemns this senseless act of violence and extends heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and the entire community of Nding Susut,” Alabo stated.
He added that additional tactical units, including mobile police personnel, have been deployed to the area to prevent further attacks and strengthen security operations.
“The Command is working closely with other security agencies and community leaders to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” he said.
Alabo further noted that investigations have begun, with ongoing efforts to track down those responsible for the killings.
