Gunmen Kill Celestial Church Prophet in Ogun State During Sunday Service

The Ogun State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the suspected killers of Prophet Yomi Adetula of the Celestial Church of Christ, Hebrew Parish, Idiroko, who was brutally murdered during a Sunday morning service.

The tragic incident occurred at the church located along Old Baggage Road, Odo Eran, Idiroko, Ogun State. According to the police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, a distress call was received by the Divisional Police Officer of Idiroko, reporting the attack.

The Attack

Witnesses revealed that the assailants stormed the church, brandishing long double-barrelled shotguns. Amid the ensuing panic, they targeted the 54-year-old prophet, shooting him multiple times before further hacking his head with an axe to ensure his demise.

Police officers who arrived at the scene found Prophet Adetula lying lifeless in a pool of blood, his white Celestial garment stained crimson. His body was riddled with bullet wounds, and his head showed evidence of brutal trauma.

The attackers fled the scene, heading towards the border area to evade capture.

Ongoing Investigation

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that the prophet’s body has been deposited at the General Hospital Mortuary in Ilaro. Efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

The police described the murder as “a very sad occurrence” and noted that critical leads were being pursued to ensure justice is served.

Victim’s Background

A source from the Social Orientation and Safety Corps in Ogun State disclosed that Prophet Adetula was a senior officer within the corps and a key witness in an ongoing legal case.

“He is one of our senior officers in Idiroko. He was a key witness in an ongoing litigation,” the source revealed.

Similar Incidents

This shocking attack is reminiscent of a 2023 incident where gunmen targeted a Redeemed Christian Church of God in Abule-Ori, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, Ogun State. The assailants killed the pastor and abducted seven worshippers during a night vigil.

The Ogun State Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to bringing the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice.
