Nigerian actress and filmmaker Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has announced that all proceeds from her directorial debut, ‘Mother’s Love,’ will go to the educational charity Slum2School Africa.

The announcement came during a private screening of the film, with Omotola confirming that every earning for her production company, Redhot Concepts, from the movie’s theatrical release will be dedicated “to advance access to education.”

The actress said the story of the movie complements the charitable mission, as it “shines light into the universal truth that transcends geography.”

“Today I stand before you and I am honoured to announce that a 100% of the production company’s proceeds from the theatrical release of ‘Mother’s Love’ will be donated to advancing the access to education. It will be handed over to Slum2School,” she said.

Reflecting on her career, Omotola added, “For more than three decades, my work in film has allowed me to tell stories that travel far beyond the screen. Yet, alongside that journey my humanitarian advocacy has reminded me that stories are not merely narratives, they are mirrors reflecting the realities of our world.

“Set between the beautiful and very important community of Makoko, a community in Lagos, shines light into the universal truth that transcends geography.”

With a runtime of 1 hour and 42 minutes, ‘Mother’s Love’ premiered last year at the 50th anniversary of the Toronto International Film Festival, drawing praise on social media for its compelling narrative.

The film follows Labake, a mother determined to hold her family together in the face of challenges, highlighting her devotion to her husband, Rotimi, and daughter, Adebisi.

The plot thickens when Adebisi leaves her privileged life to participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme, where she meets Obaro, a fellow corps member. Their interaction sparks the central conflict, exploring social and economic disparities.

The film features a talented cast, including Olumide Oworu, Ifeanyi Kalu, and Noray Nehita.
