A suspected cult member identified as Damola has died after reportedly collapsing while attempting to escape arrest by the police in the Kajola area of Ikenne Local Government Area, Ogun State.
The incident reportedly occurred last Sunday after Damola and other suspected cultists allegedly attacked and ambushed a man in the community.
According to information shared on Sunday by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama on X, the man had previously approached the police to report an alleged threat to his life.
Following the report, the police reportedly received information that the man had been ambushed by suspected cult members and immediately moved to the area.
On sighting the security personnel, the suspects allegedly fled in different directions. One of them, identified as Oluwatimileyin Daniel, was arrested, while the others reportedly escaped.
Makama said Damola, one of the fleeing suspects, collapsed while attempting to evade the police.
He wrote, “Following intelligence gathered by the police, investigators established that the complainant had allegedly been ambushed by suspected cult members in the Kajola area.
“Police operatives mobilised to the location and arrested one of the suspected cultists, identified as Oluwatimileyin Daniel, while other members of the group reportedly fled.
“One of the fleeing suspects, identified as Damola, reportedly collapsed while attempting to evade arrest and was rushed to a hospital, where he later died.”

The death reportedly caused tension in the community, leading security personnel to increase their presence in the area to prevent a possible escalation.
Confirming the incident, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Police Command, Opeyemi Oluborode, said the command had commenced an investigation.
“We are aware of this case. A very diligent investigation is currently ongoing to ascertain the facts of the matter,” he said.
The development comes weeks after the Lagos State Police Command announced the arrest of five suspected cultists allegedly terrorising parts of Apapa, Ijora and Badia. Weapons and suspected hard drugs were reportedly recovered during that operation.
