Former Brazil and Real Madrid defender Marcelo has announced his retirement from football at the age of 36, marking the end of an illustrious career that spanned decades and touched millions of fans worldwide.

Marcelo spent 15 years at Real Madrid from 2007 to 2022, where he helped the club secure an astonishing 25 trophies.
His honors include five Champions League titles, six La Liga crowns, two Copa del Rey trophies, five Spanish Super Cups, four Club World Cups, and three European Super Cups.
On the international stage, he earned 58 caps for Brazil, winning the 2013 Confederations Cup, along with a silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics and a bronze in 2008.
In a heartfelt video posted on Instagram, Marcelo shared: “My journey as a player ends here, but I still have so much to give football. Thank you for everything.”
Marcelo’s career came full circle as he returned to where it all began—Fluminense, the Brazilian Serie A side where he started both his youth and professional career.
In his final stint at Fluminense, he played a pivotal role in winning the Copa Libertadores in 2023 before leaving the club by mutual consent in November.
