In a significant gesture to recognize extraordinary contributions to the nation and the world, President Joe Biden will bestow the Presidential Medal of Freedom on 19 honourees this Saturday.

The Presidential Medal award, America’s highest civilian honor, will celebrate luminaries across entertainment, sports, fashion, politics, and humanitarian efforts.

Among the recipients are U2 frontman Bono, basketball icon Earvin “Magic” Johnson, football legend Lionel Messi, and actors Denzel Washington and Michael J. Fox.

Prominent fashion personalities Anna Wintour and Ralph Lauren will also be honored, alongside chef José Andrés and environmentalist Jane Goodall.

The White House praised the honourees as “great leaders” who have left an indelible mark on society. Political figures include billionaire philanthropist George Soros and former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Clinton was recognized for her trailblazing career in public service, while Soros was lauded for his efforts in promoting democracy and social justice globally.

Biden will also posthumously honor Robert F. Kennedy for his enduring legacy in justice and equality.

This move underscores Biden’s aim to cement his legacy as he nears the end of his term, reflecting his admiration for individuals dedicated to positive change and public service.
