Operatives of the Federal Highway Patrol have recovered a red cloth containing bones and other items believed to be human remains from a commercial vehicle on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Oyo State.
The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, confirmed the discovery in a statement issued in Ibadan on Sunday.
He explained that the vehicle, driven by Kazeem Ayegbo, who was travelling from Lagos to Osogbo, was stopped during a routine stop-and-search operation along the expressway near Guru Maharaji Village.
“A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a red cloth containing bones and other items suspected to be parts of a human corpse, concealed among the luggage,” Osifeso said.
The suspect, Osifeso added, would be charged in court once investigations are completed. “Investigation has commenced to determine the origin and intended purpose of the recovered items, with investigative efforts extended beyond Oyo State to identify and apprehend all persons connected with the incident,” he said.
The police assured residents that the case was being handled professionally and urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to aid ongoing investigations.
Meanwhile, the police also confirmed a suspected murder at a construction site in the Iyana-Ajia area of Ibadan, reported at the Akanran Police Division.
“During the altercation, Lawal Ibrahim (male), aged 22, allegedly stabbed Raimi Ige (male), aged 18, with a broken bottle, inflicting fatal injuries. The victim later succumbed while being conveyed to the hospital,” Osifeso stated.
