On Thursday, the Department of State Services (DSS) interrogated several members of the Lagos State House of Assembly following a petition reportedly written by the former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.

Sources revealed that over half of the lawmakers were invited for questioning and spent several hours at the Department of State Services office before being released in the evening.
Obasa, who was removed on January 13 over allegations of misconduct, abuse of office, and financial mismanagement, had petitioned the security agency, arguing that his ousting was unlawful.
Confirming the lawmakers’ visit, the spokesperson for the Assembly, Ogundipe Olukayode, emphasized that they were only providing clarity on the circumstances surrounding Obasa’s removal.
“At the Department of State Services office, we reaffirmed our commitment to upholding constitutional governance following the former Speaker’s removal, which was carried out in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution,” Olukayode stated.
He further commended the DSS for handling the matter professionally, ensuring that discussions were conducted smoothly and without intimidation.
Meanwhile, Obasa, who had served as Speaker since 2015, remains adamant about reclaiming his position.
Upon returning from the United States, he insisted that he was still the Speaker and called on lawmakers to follow what he described as “the right process” in addressing his removal.
The situation continues to unfold as political tensions rise within the Lagos State Assembly.
