An evening that was supposed to celebrate Afrobeats brilliance in Enugu has instead left many concertgoers furious and traumatized. Reports emerging from Davido’s 5ive Tour stop at Michael Okpara Square on November 1 reveal that what began as excitement ended in confusion, overcrowding, and fear.
Eyewitnesses alleged that the venue was packed beyond capacity, with some estimating over 40,000 people in attendance — almost double the square’s 20,000 limit. Fans took to TikTok and X to share their experiences, describing theft, harassment, and a total collapse of crowd control.
A TikTok user identified as #adis_beautification said, “Those without a ticket entered; the gate was broken, and the security guards weren’t at the gate. The security personnel did a terrible job. Touts entered. They used razor blades to tear bags.” She added that she lost her phone in the chaos and feared for her safety.
Another attendee, #hairz_by_steph, recounted, “They were pressing girls’ breasts and buttocks. A guy behind me was rock-hard. I lost my nails; the crowd was too much. Everybody was just entering.” She added that the concert, scheduled to start at 4 p.m., saw Davido arrive around 3 a.m., a delay that worsened tensions.
TikTok user #mmachukwu narrated a frightening scene at the gate: “There were tasers, there were canes. People would just be going in, trying to pass through the gates, and all of a sudden, there would be a huge crowd pushing everyone backwards… security was flogging people and using tasers.”

She continued, “The stampede was real — gates were forced down, people were falling over each other, and security completely broke down.”
Another user, #reallifestories, tearfully revealed that she lost all her belongings: “The wig I borrowed was stolen, my shoe, my other phone — everything in my bag.”
Multiple videos circulating online show distressed fans, missing valuables, and even physical altercations in the crowd. Social media users have since criticised the organisers for negligence and poor safety planning.
“It’s 2025 — there’s no excuse. Event organisers must start factoring in the safety and well-being of women at gatherings like this,” #Gidi_Traffic wrote on X.
As of press time, Davido and his team have yet to release an official statement addressing the complaints.
