Team Nigeria added three more medals to its tally at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, with the men’s 4x100m relay team securing a silver medal after Canada’s disqualification elevated the quartet from third place.
The Nigerian team of Favour Ashe, Kayinsola Ajayi, Nicholas Fakorede and Udodi Onwuzurike crossed the finish line in 38.12 seconds to claim bronze before the results were revised following Canada’s disqualification for a lane infringement.
The upgraded result saw Nigeria improve on the bronze medal it won in the same event at the previous Commonwealth Games in Birmingham four years ago.
Nigeria adopted a revised relay strategy for the final, placing its two quickest sprinters on the opening legs. Ashe got the team off to a strong start before passing the baton to Ajayi, who recently claimed bronze in the men’s 100m. Fakorede handled the third leg around the bend, while Onwuzurike anchored the team, holding off late challenges from Ghana’s Abdul Rasheed Saminu and South Africa’s Akani Simbine.
Australia claimed the gold medal with a winning time of 38.07 seconds, while Ghana moved up to bronze following Canada’s disqualification.

Nigeria also celebrated another silver medal through Ruth Usoro in the women’s long jump. Her opening leap of 6.87 metres earned her second place behind England’s Jazmine Sawyers, while Australia’s Brooke Buschkuehl finished third.
In the mixed 4x400m relay, the Nigerian quartet of Ezekiel Nathaniel, Patience Okon-George, Samuel Ogazi and Ella Onojuvwevwo clocked 3:12.85 to win bronze behind Jamaica and Australia, who finished first and second respectively.
The latest results take Team Nigeria’s medal haul at the 2026 Commonwealth Games to 23 medals comprising 10 gold, seven silver and six bronze.
