Bayern Munich and England striker Harry Kane has been named the winner of the 2026 men’s Ballon d’Or, becoming the first English player to claim the prestigious individual honour since Michael Owen in 2001.
Kane received the award at the 70th Ballon d’Or ceremony held at the London Palladium on Monday, following an outstanding 2025–26 season with Bayern Munich and the England national team.
The 33-year-old scored 61 goals in 51 appearances for Bayern during the campaign, playing a key role as the German giants secured a domestic league and cup double.
His goalscoring record extended beyond club football, with Kane finishing the season with 73 goals when his international appearances were included.
The England captain also made a significant impact at the 2026 World Cup, scoring six goals as the Three Lions progressed to the semi-finals.
Kane’s success brings an end to a lengthy wait for an English recipient of the men’s Ballon d’Or. Owen was the last player from England to win the award, claiming it in 2001 during his time at Liverpool.
