Justice Yetunde Pinheiro of the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja has postponed the hearing of the suit filed by reinstated Lagos Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, to March 17, 2025.

Obasa is contesting his removal as Speaker on January 13, 2025, after 35 lawmakers accused him of fraud, abuse of office, and gross misconduct.

The respondents in the case include members of the Lagos State House of Assembly and former Speaker, Mojisola Meranda.

The hearing was initially set for March 10, but the court rescheduled it after the defence team, led by Femi Falana (SAN), requested more time to respond to fresh affidavits filed by Obasa’s lawyers.

Meranda’s counsel, Tayo Oyetibo (SAN), also noted that the new documents contained serious fraud allegations against his client.

Justice Pinheiro ruled that all pending applications, including those challenging jurisdiction and seeking injunctions, will be heard together on March 17.

Obasa was reinstated as Speaker following an intervention by Lagos APC leaders, which saw Meranda step down.

However, his refusal to withdraw the lawsuit suggests lingering tensions within the Assembly.
