Chris Okafor, the founder of Mountain of Liberty and Miracle Ministry, has clarified the reasons behind his withdrawal of the public apology previously issued to actress Doris Ogala, who had accused him of a secret seven-year relationship.

Speaking during a recent service, Okafor said the initial apology was made under immense pressure from individuals he considered friends, and was never meant to acknowledge guilt.

“You lose a fight to win a war. I was under immense pressure from certain people around me saying I should do different things. I said that what I am being asked to do is like accepting what I did not do. I realised I was greatly misunderstood,” he stated.

Okafor insisted that his kneeling was primarily to protect senior church leaders from public scrutiny, rather than to apologise to Ogala herself.

“Firstly, the reason why I apologised was that the fathers of faith were being dragged. And I did not want them to be dragged. Pastor Matthew and Bishop Abioye.

“There is no single apology to that person. There is no apology for what I did not do or for someone I have not met face to face. I was pressured by people I called friends, but who are not. I knelt down because of those fathers. Not because of any Jezebel anywhere.”

The pastor also confirmed that the matter will now be handled through legal channels. “We have chosen the right cause. And the right course will prevail,” he added.

The dispute arose after Okafor’s engagement to Pearl Okafor went public. Ogala claimed she had been romantically involved with him since 2017, alleging he persuaded her to end her previous marriage and subsequently failed to honour promises of marriage. She later demanded either marriage or N1 billion in damages and accused him of being involved in her brother’s death.

Despite the accusations and public pressure, Okafor went ahead with his marriage to Pearl. While he initially labelled Ogala’s backlash as “the devil’s anger,” he now emphasises that his prior apology was misinterpreted and intended to defend respected church leaders rather than concede to any wrongdoing.
