Nigerian music veteran Blackface has revealed that his former Plantashun Boiz bandmate, 2Baba, declined to feature on his latest album, The Return.

Speaking during an interview with Television Continental (TVC), Blackface shared his vision for reviving the iconic group but lamented that 2Baba was unwilling to join the project.
“I’ve just released the Plantashun Boiz album, The Return, which contains 18 to 19 tracks. Faze contributed to the project, but 2Baba didn’t feature because he’s not ready to be part of it,” the 51-year-old singer-songwriter said. “We had opportunities to hit the studio together, but if someone shows you they’re not interested, do you keep waiting? No, you move on—and that’s what I’ve done.”

The artist also used the opportunity to call for the recognition he believes he deserves, particularly after Kenny Ogunde, CEO of Kennis Music, recently corroborated his long-standing claims about the controversies surrounding the classic song African Queen.
“I’m not asking for anything except respect. I’ve invested so much into this industry—for the veterans, for the younger generation, and for the fans. My contributions can’t just be erased,” Blackface emphasized.
This revelation is the latest chapter in a decade-long feud between Blackface and 2Baba, sparked by the former’s allegations of being the original writer of African Queen, which catapulted 2Baba to international fame.
In a surprising turn in October 2023, Blackface extended an olive branch to 2Baba and Faze, calling for a reunion of the Plantashun Boiz. He expressed optimism in an Instagram post that read:
“To be or not to be? @fazealone @official2baba @blackfacenaija @plantashunboizofficial. Why not? We’re on a mission for world peace. Unity is strength, not division. Let’s go champs.”
Despite this gesture, 2Baba’s absence from The Return raises questions about whether the once-iconic group will ever reunite. For fans of Plantashun Boiz, the dream of seeing the trio perform together again remains uncertain.
