National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, has released a copy of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi’s 2014 handover report, which showed the financial position of the state at the end of his administration.
Tanko shared the document on X on Wednesday amid the ongoing disagreement between Obi and the Anambra State Government over debts and other financial obligations allegedly inherited from previous administrations.
The report, dated March 17, 2014, was addressed by Obi to his successor, Willie Obiano, and contained details of the state’s finances as of the close of business on March 14, 2014, the final working day of Obi’s administration.
According to the document, the state had local investments valued at ₦27bn as of March 14, 2014, while its foreign currency investment of $156m was valued at ₦26.5bn.
It also listed certified balances belonging to the state and its ministries, departments and agencies at ₦28,165,985,574.06, alongside a Federal Government-approved refund of ₦10bn.
The figures listed in the report amounted to ₦91,665,985,574.06.
The document, however, also identified estimated liabilities of ₦5bn. The amount covered March salaries, pensions and gratuities, as well as approved certificates relating to projects that had already been executed.
After the estimated liabilities were deducted from the total balance, the report recorded the net financial position of the state as ₦86,665,985,574.06.
In the letter accompanying the report, Obi explained that the document represented the financial position of the state as his administration concluded its tenure.
“As Friday 14 March, 2014 was the final working day of my Administration, I also forward herewith, the summary of the full financial statement of Anambra State (copies of which are herein attached) as at close of business on that day.”

The release of the document comes against the backdrop of a dispute over debts and financial commitments allegedly inherited by the current Anambra State Government from previous administrations.
The state government has said it continues to service loans inherited from earlier administrations, including those incurred during the tenures of Obi and Obiano.

Obi has, however, disputed the claims, maintaining that his administration did not leave behind unpaid salaries, pensions or gratuities, or outstanding liabilities to contractors for projects that had been duly executed and certified.
The former governor has challenged anyone who disputes his position to provide evidence to the contrary.
“If anybody can establish anything to the contrary, I will stop campaigning.”
