Fuji icon Otunba Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, has officially informed the Fusengbuwa Ruling House of his desire to be considered for the vacant Awujale of Ijebuland stool.

His declaration comes as the ruling house initiates the traditional process of selecting candidates to succeed the late Awujale, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, GCON.

In a letter dated December 3, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House in Agunsebi Quarters, Ijebu-Ode, Ayinde—who holds the national honour of MON—stated that his interest is rooted in Ijebu customs and the Ogun State Chieftaincy Laws.

He emphasized that he was born on March 3, 1957, and is a “bonafide son” of the Fusengbuwa lineage, tracing his ancestry directly to the Oba Jadiara family line. According to him, this heritage grants him the right to present himself for consideration in line with established tradition.

The legendary musician highlighted his long-standing contributions to the growth of Ijebuland, Yorubaland, and Nigeria as a whole. He recalled consistently promoting Ijebu culture through his music and public engagements, as well as the chieftaincy titles—Olori Omo-Oba and Otunba Afidipotemole of Akile Ijebu—bestowed on him in 2023 by the late Awujale.

His declaration coincides with a formal directive issued to the Fusengbuwa Ruling House to commence the selection of eligible princes for the revered throne. In a letter sent to the leadership of the ruling house, the Awujale Interregnum Administration Council, through the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Oke Abiodun Adebanjo, confirmed that it is the Fusengbuwa lineage’s turn to present candidates, in accordance with rotational tradition and established customs.

The council instructed the ruling house leaders—Chairman Otunba Abdul-Lateef Adebayo Owoyemi, Deputy Chairman Otunba Adedokun Ajidagba, and Vice Chairman Prof. Fassy Adetokunbo Yusuf—to begin nominations immediately. They were given a 14-day deadline to submit shortlisted names to the Executive Chairman’s office.

The letter also noted that a key step in the succession rites will take place on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, when the Ogbeni Odi will ceremonially take possession of the Awujale’s Staff of Office—signalling the start of the next phase of the selection process.

The council appealed for transparency, harmony, and adherence to tradition throughout the process, stressing the significance of the Awujale stool—one of Nigeria’s most prestigious traditional titles. The late Oba Adetona, who reigned for over sixty years, was widely respected for his leadership and influence on national matters.

With K1 De Ultimate’s formal entry into the race, public interest is expected to intensify, particularly given his prominence in Nigeria’s cultural landscape. While other princes from the Fusengbuwa lineage are also expected to vie for the position, the ultimate decision will rest with the ruling house, kingmakers, and traditional institutions guiding the succession process.

As the nomination window opens, attention now turns to the Fusengbuwa Ruling House to see who will emerge as contenders and how the historic transition will unfold.
