Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, made an unexpected appearance on the runway at Lagos Fashion Week on Saturday, modelling an outfit from a collection by Nigerian designer Ugo Monye.
The governor’s participation drew cheers from the audience, with many attendees recognising him as he joined the models during the fashion showcase.
His appearance also reflected his support for the state’s creative sector, particularly the fashion industry, which plays a role in promoting Lagos’ cultural identity and entertainment landscape.
After the event, Sanwo-Olu explained his decision to take part in the show in a post on his X account, describing the runway walk as a departure from his regular official responsibilities.
“I stepped away from the usual business of governance to walk the runway for the incredibly talented Ugo Monye at Lagos Fashion Week. Lagos continues to grow as a home for fashion, creativity and culture and I am always happy to support the people driving this growth,” he wrote.
