President Bola Tinubu has officially inaugurated former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Christopher Musa, as Nigeria’s new minister of defence.
Musa steps into the role following the resignation of Mohammed Badaru, who left the position recently due to health-related concerns.
The swearing-in ceremony was held on Thursday at the State House, coming just a day after the senate screened and approved Musa’s nomination.
In a message shared on X, President Tinubu commended the lawmakers for their swift action, describing the appointment as timely.
“Two days ago, I transmitted the name of General Christopher G. Musa, our immediate past Chief of Defence Staff and a fine gentleman, to the Nigerian Senate for confirmation as the Federal Minister of Defence,” he wrote.

With his background as a former CDS, Musa is expected to drive major reforms and strengthen military operations across the armed forces.
During his senate screening, he assured legislators of his readiness to serve with dedication if given the mandate to lead the ministry.
