Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, have apprehended two suspects — a motorcycle thief and an illegal drug dealer — during a raid in the Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi, and made available to PUNCH Metro on Tuesday.
According to Abdullahi, the arrests were made following credible intelligence that led operatives to different locations within the Kumbotso area.
He stated, “Operatives of the NSCDC Kano State Command, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended two suspects, a suspected motorcycle thief at Sabuwar Jiddah, Yan Kusa, and a suspected illegal drug dealer at Sabon Titin Dorayi, all in the Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.”
The command’s spokesperson identified the alleged motorcycle thief as 19-year-old Usman Abdulhamid, a resident of Yandanko, Panshekara. He was reportedly nabbed shortly after stealing a motorbike from an unsuspecting individual in the Sabuwar Jiddah area.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to being part of a syndicate that specialised in stealing and snatching motorcycles across various parts of the Kano metropolis,” Abdullahi added.
He further revealed that four motorcycles — three Jincheng and one Lifan Kumata — were recovered from the suspect. He said efforts were underway to track down the two other members of the gang who remain at large.

In a related operation, the NSCDC also arrested a 28-year-old suspected drug dealer, identified as Salisu Abdullahi from Semegu, Kumbotso Local Government Area. He was caught at Sabon Titin Dorayi with a variety of psychotropic substances believed to be intended for illegal distribution.
Items recovered from him included 100 pieces of Paxol 5mg tablets, 30 pieces of Pregabalin 300mg, 170 pieces of Diazepam 10mg, and one tablet of a male sex enhancer.
“These arrests are part of the corps’ broader strategy to dismantle criminal networks involved in theft, vandalism, and other crimes that threaten public safety,” the statement added.
Abdullahi confirmed that both suspects are currently in custody and will be prosecuted once investigations are completed.
