New Alaafin Of Oyo: The newly crowned Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, has embarked on a 21-day traditional rite to mark his ascension to the throne.


New Alaafin Of Oyo: Governor Seyi Makinde officially announced Oba Owoade as the Alaafin-elect on Friday, presenting him with the staff of office on Monday during a ceremony attended by Oyomesi kingmakers, state officials, and notable figures.
Oba Owoade succeeds the late Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, who passed away three years ago. The announcement of his coronation brings closure to the prolonged wait for a new ruler in the ancient Yoruba kingdom.
New Alaafin Of Oyo: Following the ceremony, the monarch journeyed to Oyo town, where he was warmly received by his subjects. A source revealed that the 21 days of traditional rites, a crucial step in fulfilling the customs tied to the Alaafin stool, have already commenced.
“Oba Owoade has returned to Oyo town to meet with his people and will begin the mandatory rites to ascend fully to the throne of his ancestors,” the source shared.


The rituals, deeply rooted in Yoruba tradition, signify the monarch’s spiritual and cultural connection to his forebears, marking the beginning of his reign.
