Premier League: In a dismal outing for Manchester United, the Red Devils suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers on Thursday, their fourth loss in their last five Premier League games.
The game took a turn for the worse for United when captain Bruno Fernandes was sent off just two minutes into the second half, earning his second yellow card of the match.
With United down to 10 men, Wolves took full advantage, as Matheus Cunha scored directly from a corner in an embarrassing moment for United goalkeeper Andre Onana.
Wolves held on through a nervy eight minutes of added time and sealed the victory in the dying moments, with Hwang Hee-chan making it 2-0 on the counter-attack.
The result lifts Wolves out of the relegation zone and into 17th place with 15 points, while Manchester United languish in 14th with just 22 points from 18 games.
The defeat is yet another blow for United in the Premier League, who have struggled for consistency this season under new manager Ruben Amorim.
The sending off of Fernandes, their captain and talisman, only compounded the club’s woes on a disappointing night at Molineux.
With the team now firmly in the bottom half of the table, Manchester United will need to find a way to turn their fortunes around quickly if they are to salvage their season and challenge for a spot in Europe next year.
