Manchester United striker Rasmus Højlund has urged for patience as the team continues to adapt to newly appointed manager Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system.
Speaking after his impactful performance in United’s 2-1 Europa League win against Viktoria Plzen, the 21-year-old emphasized that the team needs more time to perfect the tactical approach.
Højlund, who came off the bench to score both goals and secure the victory, acknowledged the challenges of mastering the system but expressed optimism about the progress being made.
“We still need more time. It’s still very early days,” Højlund told TNT Sports. “It’s about getting the routines together, and I think it’s getting under the skin now, but obviously, it still needs a lot of practice and time. We don’t have many sessions, so we have to train it during the matches.”
Weather Challenges in Plzen
The Denmark forward noted that weather conditions in Plzen posed difficulties in the early stages of the match, with the cold temperatures and boggy pitch hampering their performance.
However, a second-half resurgence saw United claim the win, propelling them into the top-eight of the Europa League as they aim for a direct qualification to the round of 16.
“It was very cold today, difficult circumstances, and the pitch was a bit boggy. We had to deal with it, and we solved it in the second half,” Højlund said.
Looking Ahead to the Manchester Derby
Currently sitting 13th in the Premier League, United will face a tough challenge on Sunday as they visit defending champions Manchester City.
The derby comes at a critical juncture for Amorim’s side as they strive to build momentum and integrate his tactical philosophy.
Højlund’s five goals in six Europa League appearances underline his potential to thrive under Amorim’s system, but the striker remains cautious, emphasizing the importance of patience and continued improvement.
