Sequel to the swearing in by HE Prof Babagana Umara Zulum, FNSE,mni, Executive Governor of Borno State of the three Commissioners who were away for Hajj when their colleagues took the oath of office, Hon. Zuwaira Gambo, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development reported to her Ministry to enable her perform her first official duty of receiving a renovated building from the North East Regional Initiative (NERI).
At the handing over ceremony of the affairs of the Ministry, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Hauwa Maimusa, supported by the six Directors and other members of staff welcomed Hon. Zuwaira Gambo who was accompanied by a mamoth crowd which included the Member representing Kwaya Kusar in the Borno State House of Assembly, Hon Ibrahim Babale Abubakar, the Care taker Chairman, Hon. Salihu Adamu Yanga, Chairman, APC Chairman, Hon. Nuhu Alhassan, Stakeholders Forum Chairman,Hon. Idris Mbaya, Woman Leader, Hajiya Hassana Yunusa, Elders and Women from her constituency, leading politicians from other LGAs, family members, friends and associates.
Dr. Maimuna described Hon. Zuwaira Gambo as a grassroots mobiliser who has always stood by the vulnerable and marginalised. Indeed she described her posting to the Ministry as a round peg in a round hole.
In her inaugural address, Hon Zuwaira Gambo thanked His Excellency, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum the Executive Governor for giving her the opportunity to serve the people. She paid glowing tribute to her predecessor and promised to implement with the support of the staff of the Ministry, the blueprint of the Administration which has a 10- Pact Agenda which includes:
– Making the lives of the women in the State better,
– their families safer,
– their health care provision more available,
– their access to necessary infrastructure assured,
– their education and that of their children better and increase their productivity and wages.
Thereafter the Commissioner accompanied by the Permanent Secretary and Directors proceeded to Shakuri Rehabilitation Center,Custom Area where the officials of the North East Regional Initiative (NERI) which included Mr Pam, Mr. Olivia and Mr. John who took them on a tour of the structure which was handed over to NERI by the Borno State Government and has been reconstructed and renovated. It’s expected to be furnished by the Organisation for International Migrants (OIM).
The building now has four blocks of hostels to accommodate at least 500 residents with four laundry points, a massive kitchen, a recreational arena, a giant generator and a big overhead tank for constant water supply.
Receiving the keys to the building from the NERI team leader, Mr. Olivia, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development on behalf of HE the Governor thanked the collaborating Agencies for this laudable intervention, she informed the partners that the facility be judiciously utilised and prayed for more collaboration and support from the Agencies.
From the Rehabilitation Center, the Commissioner and her team inspected the Family Support Shopping Complex Gamboru Ngala Road where a meeting was held with the leaders of the market on how to improve the standard of the facility for the benefit of the Ministry and tenants.
In the same vein, all moved to the residence of the Commissioner where a teeming crowd of well-wishers had gathered to celebrate the appointment of Hon Zuwaira Gambo as Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development by His Excellency, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, the Executive Governor of Borno State.
