The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi has given reasons for the golden statue erected to honour the wife of President Tinubu.
On Thursday, the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu was a guest in the ancient town where she commissioned a 2.7 km road named after her, alongside a grand pavilion and monument donated by the Ooni of Ife all located in the Obafemi Awolowo University campus.
The First Lady praised the Ooni for naming these projects after her, noting that the inauguration coincides with celebrations for the monarch’s 50th birthday.
Meanwhile, Ooni, in his remarks, acknowledged Mrs. Tinubu’s significant contributions to education and women’s empowerment.
He stated, “A golden statue is erected to immortalise her virtuous person and to showcase the strength of a teacher, a mother, and a wife in her at the very heart of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.”
The monarch went further in an Instagram post, “As I begin my 50th birthday celebrations with meaningful activities for the people of Ile-Ife, I was honored to welcome Her Excellency, the First Lady of Nigeria, to the Royal Court of Ife. Her visit, attended by dignitaries, marked the unveiling of the OJAJA hostel, and the commissioning of a 2.7-kilometer road and a pavilion named in her honor at Obafemi Awolowo University. These events reflect our shared commitment to progress for our community and nation.
Her Excellency’s journey from a student at Obafemi Awolowo University over 41 years ago to a national leader is inspiring. She has consistently championed the rights of women and children across Nigeria, advocating for gender equality, education, and social welfare. Her support for entrepreneurial programs has fostered a new generation of female leaders, contributing to national development.
Like Her Excellency, I urge all leaders to serve Nigeria with integrity, compassion, and patriotism. Our nation requires socio-economic initiatives that reach all corners, and it is our duty to be sources of hope and strength in shaping Nigeria’s future.
He added, “Furthermore, built is a state-of-the-art hostel whose dynamic pavilion reflects her progressive nature. The construction of a 2.7 km road with glowing solar lamps provides a viable alternative for goal-driven students during recent blackouts on campus. This road symbolizes the many paths she has opened for youth, women, and the underprivileged in our society.”
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, represented by his deputy, Kola Adewusi, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to enhancing infrastructural amenities across Osun.
The event marked a significant step towards revitalizing the university’s environment while celebrating the legacy of leadership exemplified by Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
