A lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) has broken his silence after a viral incident where a student allegedly tore his clothes and physically assaulted him on campus.
The incident, which has sparked heated discussions on social media, reportedly began when the lecturer tapped the student while passing by, only for her to respond with hostility.
Lecturer’s Version of Events
According to his statement, he had just left a lecture hall when he saw the student recording a video in the middle of a walkway. As he passed, he gently tapped her and continued, but he overheard her remark, “Who does he think he is?”
Concerned that he may have been recorded without his consent, he turned back and asked for her phone. However, instead of complying, the student allegedly bit him on both arms, slapped him, tore his clothes, and scratched his face.
“I held her hand to prevent her from fleeing, but she completely lost control. She slapped and scratched my face, tore my clothes, and went berserk—all of which I endured calmly,” he stated.
Student Alleges Harassment
The student, in her own version of events, accused the lecturer of holding her chest while attempting to take her phone.
She also claimed that she resisted because she felt violated and had done nothing wrong.
Security Involvement & Next Steps
Both parties were taken to the university’s security office, where the student reportedly alleged that the lecturer tried to strip her naked. The lecturer, however, dismissed the claim and hinted that the student’s mother, a lecturer in the Engineering department, may have influenced her boldness.
The university authorities are now expected to investigate the matter to determine the truth behind the conflicting narratives.
