President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to depart Abuja on Monday for a state visit to Turkey, aimed at enhancing diplomatic and economic relations between the two nations.

In a statement released on Sunday, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga said the visit “is aimed at strengthening the existing cordial relations between the two countries and exploring further areas of cooperation in security, education, social development, innovation, and aviation.”

Onanuga highlighted that discussions during Tinubu’s visit will primarily focus on finance, communication, trade, and investment.

He added that Nigeria and Turkey are set to sign memoranda of understanding (MoUs) covering scientific research, energy, technical cooperation, media and communications, military collaboration, and protocol.

“A business forum will bring together investors from both countries to explore areas of interest during the visit,” Onanuga stated.

This marks President Tinubu’s first visit to Turkey since assuming office, following Turkish President Recep Erdogan’s visit to Nigeria from October 19 to 20, 2021.

A high-profile delegation will accompany Tinubu, including Yusuf Tuggar, minister of foreign affairs; Lateef Fagbemi, attorney-general of the federation and minister of justice; Christopher Musa, minister of defence; and Jimi Benson, chairman of the House Committee on Defence.

Onanuga did not specify the date of Tinubu’s return, stating only that the president would come back at the conclusion of the visit.
