President Bola Tinubu has signed into law two bills establishing the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences, Iyin Ekiti, and the Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies, Iragbiji, Osun State.

The announcement was made on Thursday by Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, following the signing of the legislations at the State House, Abuja.
The Senate had earlier passed both bills—sponsored by Bamidele in 2023 and 2024—before they gained approval from the House of Representatives and received presidential assent.
In a statement titled “NASS Secures Presidential Assent to Federal Universities in Ekiti, Osun”, Bamidele emphasized the crucial role of the new institutions in advancing science, technology, agriculture, and environmental sustainability in Nigeria.
“These universities will bridge the knowledge gap in science, technology, and innovation, promote environmental sustainability and climate action, and enhance agricultural innovation and food security in Nigeria,” he said.
Specialized Focus Areas
Before the presidential approval, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, had recommended the universities’ establishment in a letter dated February 19, highlighting their distinct academic focus.
